Following up with our last post, the 2010 Sama Sama Sayoc DVD is now available! I just received mine two days ago and this year’s DVD is a good one! It’s a three-volume, two-disc set that the most Sayoc Kali training material of any Sama Sama DVD I’ve seen to date. 3.5 hours!
I was honored to find out that yours truly has about a 4 min segment at the beginning of the DVD, talking about “Intent.” Intent is a very important part of your training, especially anytime you use drills (which everyone does) as a training tool. Tuhon Ricardo has a nice, long section on ground work and maneuverability, shot at night. Good stuff!
This DVD is special for a reason other than the amount of content. Pamana Tuhon Sayoc, himself, is teaching material in this DVD. What’s great about this is that he is teaching the new practitioners our basic curriculum. 3 of 9, Panantukan, and Receiver grips. If you are a new practitioner, this is great, basic material to get a better understanding about how Sayoc Kali works. If you have been training for a while, this is even better! It’s like a back-stage pass to see the actual thought process behind what goes into these drills – the thought process of the head of the system!
The entire table of contents is on the Sayoc Kali main site, but a few areas of training covered are:
- Transition Drills
- Receiver Grips
- Counters to drawing a blade
- Lowline kicking
- Stick “diggables”
- Application to the street
- Family Dynamics
