The Personal & Family Safety Protocol classes were developed in response to many friends and family becoming more aware of an increase in crime over the last year in the San Francisco Bay Area. Reports of muggings, especially, are on the rise. An increase in crime in a down economy is unfortunately a normal phenomenon. As times become harder you will see desperate people become more bold in their pursuits. It is unfortunate that we have to worry about this, but, really, crime is nothing new. It is only currently at a heightened state. The only answer that one can have is to be Ready to protect yourself and your family.
Highlights:
- No previous experience required!
- Debunk common myths around “self defense”
- 4-point Situation Assessment to increase your awareness and readiness beyond what you thought possible
- Identify real threats before they engage with you
- Know when to escape and when to fight
- Easy-to-learn attack templates that require little strength yet deliver incredible stopping power
- Learn how you and your significant other can address threats as a team. Train your family members to be assets rather than liabilities
- Legal matters – what you need to know about dealing with the Police and Courts, post-event
Originally, the demand for this class came mostly from friends who are women. There were a couple of incidents that gave them a scare, but fortunately no one was hurt. These are the types of experiences that open one’s eyes to the need to understand how to protect themselves. Unfortunately, that first eye-opening experience that only scares some, can be the first experience for others who end up hurt or worse. Contrary to other women’s “self defense” classes, we will show women the exact same material we show men. In fact, over the years, we have been involved with several training contracts for federal law enforcement agencies and special operations groups in the military. Many of these contracts had women in attendance and we taught them the same material as the men, with a high level of success.
In these safety protocol courses we also want to address the fact that many of us out there also have families; wives, husbands, boyfriends, girlfriends, children, friends, etc… You decide who you consider to be part of your family. A safety protocol is incomplete without the rest of your family in the equation. So, while this is certainly not exclusively a “couples” training course, it is a great opportunity for any interested partners to come in and train together. When protecting your family, it is of the utmost importance for all members of the family to be on the same page. As the heads of your family, this is up to you to determine.
Courses are taught in a three-hour seminar format and are designed, from the ground up, for the individual or family with zero martial arts or self defense experience. The class format will be both lecture and physical training. Wear something in which you would feel comfortable working out. The physical training will not be overly strenuous. This is not a kick-boxing class. Rather, we will be concentrating on a few very simple techniques with improvised weapons to very quickly put you in a safer situation.
Course Outline
1 Hour
- Self Defense Myths
- The myth of “Self Defense”
- Stun Guns
- Pepper Spray
- Real-life Scenarios – Why you need to take responsibility for your own safety and why you need to take it seriously
- Readiness – “Are you ready?” when people are asked this question, often the response is something like “Absolutely,” or “I was born ready!” These responses usually only mean that the person is about to do …something. But what does it really mean to be ready to protect yourself? Do you know how to fight? Do you even know you’re about to find yourself in a fight? Are you willing to do what is necessary to protect yourself or your loved one(s)? We’ll go into this in a good amount of detail.
- The human reflex loop and why you MUST understand how this works
- Observe
- Orient
- Decide
- Act
- De-escalation Mindset – how this ties into the human reflex loop and its importance in protecting yourself
- Four-Point Situation Assessment (This, alone, will exponentially improve your ability to stay safe)
- Legal Protocols – In conjunction with Public Defender for the City of Richmond, CA, Brandon Banks, we will discuss the legal ramifications around protecting yourself
2 Hours
- Physical Training
- Reactionary Gap
- Improvised weapons to even the odds
- Striking Templates / Power-Striking / Drills
